A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.
– George R.R. Martin
According to that quote, I have hundreds of lives. I love reading and most of the time there are at least two books I’m reading, sometimes even three or four. At the Books to Read page I listed some books I already bought or am planning to buy but haven’t read yet. Just to give you an idea about my tastes.
But, apart from that, here are a few facts about me: I’m a 25 year old girl from Germany and I’m studying electrical engineering. But hopefully not for long anymore, I passed all my exams and am planning to finish my master thesis in September or October. I live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world – Munich! I was also born here and grew up here, but I can’t speak Bavarian. Maybe that’s because both of parents are from different parts of Germany.
When I’m not learning geeky stuff at my university or am running around fictional worlds with strange characters in my books I love to spend time with my (mostly very weird but awesome) friends. And since October 2012 I also sew. I sat at a sewing machine for the first time when I was 13 years old and ever since mended my stuff or sewed little things, like a leather case for my cell phone on my Mum’s machine. But nothing big and no garments. I always thought I can’t sew clothing. But in spring that year a friend of mine made a tiered skirt for herself and told me that it was no problem at all, and it was one of the first times she ever used a sewing machine and so she sent me the link to the instructions. However I saved the link and always had something more important to do, at least until I had to stay home for few days due to a partly torn ligament. Ouch. And so I suddenly had time on my hands and was bored. And I made that tiered skirt! And loved how it just fitted me. No shortening the hem, no trouble with the waist. That was the beginning of my decision to sew my own clothes. You can find a list of planned sewing projects at the My Needle’s Desires page.
Oh, and I’m also addicted to music. It’s never quiet at my home, I try to catch concerts and one or two times a year I go to festivals. I think I have a broad taste in music. My “main” genre is Heavy Metal (the softer side of it, like Avantasia, Iron Maiden, Edguy, Hammerfall, just to name a few) but I also like stuff like The Who, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, Tom Petty, Queen, Magnum, all sorts of Hard Rock bands, old music, new music, movie Soundtracks (for example the ones by Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman or songs from the Disney movies of my youth) and all sorts of other stuff I stumble upon.
I hope you all have a good time reading my blog – some of it is still in German, I’m afraid and while I’m trying to translate all the pages I won’t do the same with my older posts. I might translate the few tutorials I have. When I find the time. Maybe I should tear another of my ligaments 😉
